Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, is required for organogenesis, homeostasis and immune response, and it contributes to the progression of many diseases including cancer. Angiogenesis involves several morphogenetic steps, during which endothelial cells (ECs) polarize, migrate, establish cell-cell contacts and form vessel lumes. These processes all critically dependent on the organization and dynamic rearrangement of the endothelial actin cytoskeleton. We aim to understand, at the molecular level but in context of living organism, the mechanisms that regulate rearrangement of endothelial actin cytoskeleton during angiogenesis. Our current work focuses on signaling processes regulated by interaction between ECs and extracellular matrix.
